HelloLola, or Hello Learning Other Languages, is an idea for a mobile application designed to help transition resettled refugees into new society by minimizing culture shock and language barriers.
It is introduced to refugees as soon as they arrive to the Welcome Center by volunteer workers who will then teach them how to properly use the app so that they may be able to utilize it as soon as possible.
It is equipped with an artificially intelligent bot named Lola. She is able to translate, answer questions, detect items, and more. All the user has to do is call out her name, or say “Hello, Lola!” followed by a command and Lola is able to assist with little to no hesitation.
HelloLola’s mission is to help refugees live easier lives by minimizing the most common problems they undergo when they first move in to new society.
HelloLola is a solution formulated for my senior capstone answering the question “How might we create a one-stop resettlement resource to help refugees in Indiana for the first three months?”
This project involved a lot of research, trial, and error, but more importantly, I had the opportunity to work with a lot of amazing people that assisted me in reaching my final outcome.
Feel free to check out my case study to learn more about my capstone project, the methods I utilized, and more:
